Envision a vibrant painting that weaves together the realism of the natural world, bold shapes with strong graphic design, richly varied textural elements and dramatic color combinations – these components all live in harmony in the bold and contemporary signature style of Nancy Treherne Craig.

After studying art formally in her native Baltimore at Maryland Institute College of Arts and later Cornell University, Penn State and SUNY Buffalo, Nancy moved to Western New York in the late 1990’s. She maintains her studio in Orchard Park NY.

Throughout an active family life this accomplished painter has exhibited her acrylic paintings regularly while cultivating her interests in graphic design, textiles and a special love of the outdoors. As if placing a lens over the ordinary, she magnifies the impact of the last light over the treetops, shadowed tracks in snow or the fleeting hues of a cloudscape. In Nancy’s own statement regarding being awake, aware and alive to the richness of life she states: “We need to see it all; we need to open our eyes”.

Artist’s Statement:
This work is intended as a call to be awake, to be aware always and everywhere, and therefore to be fully alive. When I make art, the starting point is the natural world. In trying to really see my surroundings (mostly in Western New York), I find a richness that is easy to miss in quick glances and casual appearances. We need to see it all; we need to open our eyes.
