Jeanne Beck, born in Pittsburgh, PA, lives in Canandaigua, NY, part of the beautiful Finger Lakes region. She is a process-based artist who creates mixed media paintings and large installations inspired by creative energy taking form.
In March 2017, Jeanne moved from her Rochester studio to a 1350 square-foot loft gallery space and studio in Canandaigua, NY. The move parallels an equally significant transition in her work; she now is creating a body of large-scale paintings influenced by abstract expressionism and gestural mark making.
Jeanne’s works have appeared in publications, curated invitational and juried exhibitions. They are part of private and public collections, including University of Rochester Gleason Library and MacVittie Student Union, SUNY Geneseo, New York. Beck also exhibited and lectured at SOFA Chicago 2009 and won a Niche Award for one of her “Book of the Ancients” mixed media constructions in 2013.
In addition to art and writing, Beck’s interests include yoga, reading epic fantasy novels, writing, traveling and cooking. She loves spending time by the water - creeks, rivers, lakes and oceans – and is starting to write a book about creativity and creative process.
Artist’s Statement:
“Over 20 years and thousands of studio hours ago I decided to stop yearning for an art-centered life and start living it. As my artworks evolve, my techniques, tools and subjects also do, but my commitment to growth and experimentation is a constant.
This past year I’ve been focused on developing a new body of abstract paintings in acrylics and oils, which has been a marvelous passage for me into a new medium. Whatever fears and apprehensions I may have felt about making major shifts in location and process have dwindled away. I love painting and the intense growth it has stimulated in my new studio environment.” -Jeanne Beck
