Masters of Illusion – The Art of Trompe L’oeil
Take a Second Look

Exhibition:
Friday, October 20, 2017-Saturday, November 18, 2017

Each painting in the exhibition Masters of Illusion – The Art of Trompe l’oeil: Take a Second Look is a nod to John Yerger (1935-2017), the accomplished former instructor of the many dedicated painters who studied with him. The group exhibition at Meibohm Fine Arts is the second presentation of the meticulous work by Yerger’s students, this year including 21 Western New York artists. Research, focused dedication and regularly “putting in the work” are needed to create pieces in which a flat painted surface almost unbelievably appears to be three dimensional.

Through patient mentoring, John coaxed keen observation, attention to detail and stunning realism from his students, while encouraging original narratives from each. His legacy not only lives on but flourishes in these works on display – a fitting tribute to Mr. Yerger.
