The representational paintings of two regional artist friends, John Brach and Sean Witucki, will be displayed in the exhibit entitled “Kindred Spirits” which provides classic examples of modern realism and the allure of oil paintings employing methods of the “Old Masters”.
Working directly from artfully composed still life arrangements, John Brach employs extraordinary drawing skill and textural elements. Educated in both classical painting as well as medicine, he approaches content “with contemplation of magical and spiritual forces at work”.
Sean Witucki’s love of nature and reverence for it since childhood is apparent in his striking landscapes which impart a certain “majesty, intimacy, truth and strength”. He creates a personal narrative in still life work through common objects that connect with the viewer. The well rounded subject matter and compositions of these two gifted artists surely accomplish a stated goal of “…trying to see and share the beauty that surrounds us all”.
The opening of the exhibition “Kindred Spirits” on Friday, April 28 from 5-9pm coincides with the annual Spring East Aurora Art Walk, and continues through Saturday, May 27, 2017.
Artist Statement: John Brach
Ancient peoples and tribes attributed much of their life-experience to magic or the action of spirits. Considering the sensory bombardment of our modern electronic age, it is remarkable that we still look at paintings and drawings as our ancestors did thousands of years ago.
My work is based on the visual language of life with consideration of both the grand and mundane and with contemplation of the magical and spiritual fences at work in my life. Thank you for looking and welcome to Kindred Spirits.
Artist Statement: Sean Witucki
From the beginning as a small boy, I have been immersed in nature. It is who I am as a person and as a painter. All of Gods creations lend infinite amounts of subject and inspiration to work from. I have found traditional techniques best suit what I strive for visually. It is what your soul feels when looking at a painting that matters to me. The emotional response it creates.
The two ways I have chosen to express the beauty I see is in landscape and still life painting. This direction allows me to show both Gods and man’s touch on the world around us. The “Light” that both shed. Within the landscape I strive to show majesty, intimacy, truth and strength of Gods creations. In still life I choose subjects that create personal narratives with natural, historical and common place objects that can also resonate with many people. It is a wonderful connection that I feel I am able to make with the viewer.
I have never personally considered myself an artist. Just a man trying to see and share the beauty that surrounds us all.
