Exhibition:
Friday, April 29, 2016-Saturday, June 4, 2016

The Howard D. Beach (1864-1954): Mutotones exhibition is being held over until June 4, 2016.

Meibohm Fine Arts will be featuring unique photographic works called Mutotones by the noted photographer Howard D. Beach (1867-1954). The exhibit includes 48 images created by Beach during the 1920’s. This series was produced at a high point in a long and productive life of artistic and scientific exploration. Howard D. Beach: Mutotones will open with a reception Friday, April 29, 2016, 5-9pm.

Howard Beach was well known for his commercial portrait studio and the countless elegant photographs of Buffalonians he captured. The Buffalo History Museum now houses more than 57,000 of his glass plate negatives and archives, and is collaborating with the Museum Studies program at Buffalo State College to help preserve and conserve the collection.

Beach was a fine art painter as well, having completed many oil paintings during the 1920’s and 30’s depicting landscapes, seascapes and floral still lifes. The Mutotones employed a special patented technique he developed combining all his creative talents. Images were photographically produced with inspiration drawn from soft Photo-Pictorialists sensibilities. Inspired by one of his own paintings or the natural landscape, he then manipulated the images through numerous stages to produce his finished Mutotones.

Meibohm Fine Art will also be participating in the Echo Art Fair May 13-15, 2016 and will be including works by Howard Beach along with other artists.
