George Renouard was born in Rochester, NY and studied art in New York City at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute and the Art Students League. He painted primarily in oil rendering still lifes, landscapes and seascapes, but was equally skilled in watercolor and etching mediums. Painting sites included Rockport, MA and Long Island as well as the Catskill and Berkshire Mountains. His depictions of working people, fishermen and immigrants centered on Brooklyn’s south shore and New York’s Lower East Side. Among the venues where Renouard exhibited are the Salmagundi Club, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, National Academy of Design and the Art Institute of Chicago.
