A respected sculptor, painter and educator, Dennis Barraclough is a University at Buffalo graduate, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking (1970), and a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Michigan (1972). In 1972, he joined the Daemen Art Department as a faculty member. Now a professor in the Daemen Visual & Performing Arts Department, Barraclough's instruction includes courses such as Foundation Design and Sculpture. Additionally, he serves as Gallery Director and the Director of Fine Arts for the Department. Barraclough has exhibited throughout the US, China and recently in Venice, Italy where his work was included in the 2013 Venice Biennale.
This exhibition includes acrylic paintings on paper and canvas that show the command of design and subtle control of color and form which Barraclough has developed over his artistic career. “The paintings and works on paper for this exhibition, 2012-2014 are a further exploration of the paintings I have been working on over the past 5-7 years. The earlier paintings were let’s say literal in nature. The new work in this show is a continuation of that in a purer sense, less metaphor and more direct, more about the day-to-day response to what preceded it.” –Dennis Barraclough
