John Yerger and his serious minded apprentices have in common a desire to achieve extraordinary realism with artfully chosen subject matter for their trompe l’oeil paintings. Trompe l’oeil is a unique artistic style which translated from French means “to deceive or fool the eye” and requires a great deal of time, dedication and discipline.

Instruction begins with development of drawing skills, followed by monochromatic paintings to stress the importance of tonal value. Finally, design concepts and use of color are studied and consistently applied with conventional techniques. Most of the artists have previous formal art education or are currently attending school. Some are enrolled with the Academy of Realist Art (ARA), Toronto or are members of the International Guild of Realism.

A Buffalo native, Mr. Yerger was educated at the Art Institute of Buffalo and Vesper George School of Art, Boston, MA. He has exhibited widely and is represented in many national and international collections. John believes this trompe l’oeil exhibit to be the first in the Western New York area. Further information regarding artists’ statements and biographies may be found through Meibohm Fine Arts individual artist pages on this website.
