Artist Statement:
Although my goals and driving force behind painting haven’t changed over the years, my method of expression has. In a world of increasing complexity, I find myself drawn more and more to simple and uncomplicated motifs, and it is my desire to reflect those qualities in how I apply the paint. With unnecessary details removed and my own preconceived ideas taken away, only the truth remains. That is where the beauty lies.
Though color flourishes, there has evolved an economy of brush strokes in my work. With a controlled restraint (I find that less is more), I try not to impose myself “too much” on my paintings for fear that the impact will be lost. I don’t always succeed, but I continue to try. This is the process that I so love. It is what keeps me coming back to painting again and again.
