Nancy Treherne Craig Artist Statement:
“This artwork is intended as a call to be awake, to be aware always, to consider the possibilities wherever we are, and therefore to be fully alive.
For me, the starting point is always the natural world. In trying to see my surroundings I find, with luck and diligence, a richness in the mundane that encourages deeper examination of our whole situation, a richness completely missed by casual appearances and quick glances. Because an important component of the work is areas of patina/marks that read as one, I am currently trying to visually mine my surroundings for just such references.”
Jane Foley Ferraro Artist Statement:
“To paraphrase Tony Bennett ....I left my heart in New Mexico....a place that is breathtaking but also a place that allows one to truly breathe. This series of monoprints consists of one-of-a-kind images that are interpretations of photographs I shot while visiting New Mexico in 2010 and 2011.
To begin a monoprint, I paint onto a clear acrylic plate. The size of the plate determines the overall image size. The plate is then aligned onto paper or art board that has been washed with a base of color. The image is transferred by rubbing with a brayer or simply by using the pressure of my hands. The process involves control yet there is always the sheer pleasure of spontaneous accidents and synchronistic occurrences. I hope that the images speak for themselves, to you the viewer, by way of my heart.”
