A special guest visited the gallery on April 15th to see Joe's show, Flat Stanley from Chicago! He enjoyed seeing Joe's paintings and the tour of the Art Shop and gallery very much. You can see a few photos below right of his visit.
Over time the abstracted watercolors of Joe Orffeo have loosely depicted growing, ever changing sequences including cloudscapes, landscapes and outer space. The current body of work entitled “Progressions” showcases the artist’s uncanny melding of the properties of the medium with his ideas about the form, space and matter of the universe.
Sometimes revisiting themes of past travels or life encounters, Orffeo confidently stretches the boundaries of the medium, whether boldly applying opaque hues at maximum intensity, or flowing thin films of color onto the water medium. These evolved works offer a window into Orffeo’s rich life experience through the balance of depth and surface, subtlety and power.
