Alexis Jean Fournier (1865-1948)
This exhibition celebrates the work of Alexis Jean Fournier (1865-1948), highlighting diverse periods of his illustrious career across Minnesota, France, and Western New York. A pivotal figure in the American Arts and Crafts movement, Fournier began his artistic journey in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the late 1800s. Influenced by the Barbizon School, he undertook seven transformative trips to France, which profoundly shaped his distinctive style and vision.
Known as the Court Painter of the Roycroft, Fournier's legacy spans over forty-five years, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic heritage of East Aurora, New York. His vibrant spirit and enduring influence are evident throughout this extraordinary collection. In addition to Fournier's luminous landscapes, the exhibition features work by other esteemed Roycroft artists, offering a captivating glimpse into this dynamic artistic community.
