Changes. All artists go through them. We experiment with different ideas, mediums, styles, subjects…. Going through these changes is part of the process in finding who we are as artists and what voice manifests through the work. For some time, I’ve devoted myself to the genre of landscape, an endeavor that has impacted my life a great deal. The evolution of my artistic voice has changed my current work to the subject of still life. It is a joy to know that in this show I have two voices, one voice through landscape and one with still life. Landscapes provide me with the ability to express pure beauty in nature. My still life work allows me to have commentary on historical events and people from this nation. Both allow me to express my love and devotion to God. The ability to change also allows a shift in style. I can be a bit more relaxed and expressive with landscape, while my still lives are refined and highly realistic. The still life also allows for a more direct narrative. Story telling has become a very important part of my work.
It is my hope that this exhibition allows you, the audience, to be able to see inside the artistic process and deeper into who I am as a painter and a man.
This show is unlike anything I have put together in the past. I hope that it represents who I am and what I am passionate about. I would sincerely like to thank Grace and the good folks at Meibohm Fine Arts. Tom Kegler, John Brach, Art Budington and Marc Herring, without your insight and conversational understanding, I do not believe I would have been able to grow a fraction of what I have. Finally, Nicole, Meadow and Jackson. You are everything. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made and will likely continue to make in order for me to take this journey. Every single thing I do in my life is for you. I love you.
