Ellen Steinfeld is a nationally recognized Western New York painter, sculptor, multi-media artist, lecturer, and teacher. She is known for her paintings in acrylic, watercolor and mixed media, as well as steel sculptures. Public sculptures are on view at Roswell Park, JCC of Buffalo, Daemen University, and Niagara Falls National Heritage Area and include a recent installation “Red Fish” at the Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center which raises awareness about pollution in the great lakes.
The artist describes her process of creating this vibrant body of recent works in this statement:
“My work reflects a fascination with nature, rhythm and dance while also exploring the idea of art as the construction of personal worlds. I am interested in interweaving shapes and colors with imaginary organic forms, combining spatial relationships and creating microscopic landscapes. The work is familiar while also strange. A subtle play on the liminal border between the world of the senses and the world of the mind, where forms and rules are temporarily suspended, and “other worlds” are created.”
