It would be safe to say that this past year’s pandemic and political divisions have convoluted my disposition in life and in the studio. What was once very much habitual has quickly become unraveled. Moving through life as a spectator in isolation, these current truths take on new meanings that are interpreted through visual form, creating something felt and unspoken. The paintings evolve through this immediate environment in addition to multiple sources of inspiration; blunders, memories, natural and historical references. I’ve allowed myself the freedom to ramble through the undulations this past year gave us while enabling these impressions to guide the formal elements and the process of painting.
