Margaret J. Raab (American, 1951- ) I am an artist and art educator. I hold degrees in art, art history and art education. I taught art for over thirty years to students from pre-school to adults. I exhibit my work both in New York and California, where I am active in numerous art organizations. My work can be found in private collections internationally and in the United States. My works are realistic oil paintings. I am continually inspired by my love and study of late Renaissance and Dutch Masters work. I am drawn to still life because of the objects chosen and stories that can be told through these objects.
The work I am presenting in this exhibit at Meibohms "Masters of Illusion – The Art of Trompe L’oeil: The Games People Play" is a trompe l’oeil oil painting. Working within the parameters of this style has been challenging and rewarding. The traditional subject matter is altered and depicted in playful manner. In creating this painting my goal was to create the illusion of seeing something unexpected as real. In combing the realistic techniques with the paper and origami subject matter was joyful.
