Stefanie (née Dolinar) von Trauttweiller (Austrian, 1892-1976) was a painter primarily known for her paintings of native flowers from Austria, floral, fruit & object/interior still lifes, interiors, landscapes, genre scenes as well as interior & landscape views with animals. Stefanie Dolinar was born on April 24, 1892 in Mödling, Austria (near Vienna, some sources state 1888 which is incorrect for this artist), daughter of the Director of the Southern Railway Rail Rolling Mill, Dr. Stephan Dolinar (mother unknown). She studied at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien (Academy of Fine Arts) in Vienna, Austria and also with painter, Prof. Adalbert Franz Seligmann (Austrian, 1862-1945), landscape painter & illustrator, Prof. Alexander Rothaug (Austrian, 1870-1946) and the well-known listed floral painter, Prof. Camilla Göbl-Wahl (Austrian, 1871-1965).
Stefanie Trauttweiller married Major General Josef Trauttweiller Edler von Sturmheg (1871-1942) of the WWI Imperial and Royal Army of Austria and Hungary (Kaiserlich und königlich [K.u.k.]) on July 18, 1913 at the Kurhaus, Vienna (now Casino Baden), but the couple never had children. She worked as a painter in Vienna around 1933 as well as in Peggau near Graz, Styria. During her professional career as a painter, she had simplified her longer married name to Stefanie von Trauttweiller, as she is most well-known for. She was a member of and exhibited at the Segantinibund, the Burggarten and the Künstlerhaus, all in Vienna, as well as a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. She stated after her husband’s passing in 1942, that she had to continue making a living as a painter since her pension as the widow of an Imperial and Royal Major General was too low to live on. Stefanie von Trauttweiller later resided at St. Christoph Castle near Payerbach, Lower Austria and died in Graz, Austria in 1976. (some sources state 1979, which is incorrect for this artist)—Her name is often misspelled as Stephanie Trauttweiller, Trautweiller or Trauttweiler, or sometimes simply listed as Stefanie Trauttweiller (no von) or Stefanie v. Trauttweiller.
