Artist Statement:
Using birds as representatives of nature, my work explores our relationship to the natural world. Birds are drawn and hand embroidered using thread like miniature brushstrokes. Shading and hues are created using long and short stitches, overlapping and the combining of a variety of colored silk and cotton thread. Kimono remnants and various paper and fabrics are collaged and stitched to for each piece.
