For as long as she can remember, Louise Daoust has always dreamt of being an artist. Careers and family filled up her life until her dream could no longer be pushed aside and had to become reality. When Daoust started painting, she expected to be attracted by abstract or impressionist art but quickly discovered her interest for details and precision. It was clear from that moment that classical realism had chosen her path … Daoust studied with local artists around Buffalo, New York and was quickly introduced to the “trompe l’oeil” teachings of John Yerger.

Daoust also enrolled at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto. Their teachings, based on the techniques of the old masters, provided Daoust with the classical drawing and painting skills she needed to express abstractions and impressions into the crisp touch of reality.

“My medium of choice is oil paint. I like the texture, the smell, and how every colour in my world is now described using the name on the tube of paint. What fascinates me the most about painting is the problem solving process that takes place with each brush stoke. I find that I am retracing the steps of countless masters before me and I feel privileged to be able to experience the thought process that they went through.”

“My paintings are quirky. I like to paint inanimate objects and put them in relation to each other to evoke an emotional response. I want my viewers to feel amused, puzzled, and intrigued by my work.”

Memberships/Associations: Member of the International Guild of Realism.

Personal Quote: “Stop! Breathe in! If it smells like oil paint and medium, I’m home!”
