Paul Alico was born and educated in Buffalo, NY, and received a degree in Art Education from the State University College at Buffalo.

For twenty years he served the Buffalo Fire Department as a professional fire fighter. During this time, Paul diligently pursued the development of his art, drawing and painting a diverse mix of subject matter, ranging from wildlife to firefighting.

In the 1980’s, Paul displayed his work locally at G&R Gallery of Wildlife, where his popularity garnished a separate room for his work. At this time he won the Western New York Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year Award. Out of state he exhibited at the prestigious Eastern Maryland Waterfowl Festival, both Blue and Gold rooms from 1978-1990. In addition he has shown at the Annapolis Marine Art Gallery, Russell Finks Gallery, the Northwestern Wildlife Exposition, Art Dialogue, Eminent Design, Florida’s Decoy Den, Mangroves, as well as group national exhibits.

He recorded many of his firefighting experiences on canvas, and was one of the pioneers of Firefighting Art. Paul’s three limited edition prints were well received and sold nationally and internationally. Best selling author and firefighter Dennis Smith (report from Engine 82, Glitter and Ash., etc., as well as the creator of Firehouse magazine), owns three of his early pieces. Paul’s work has appeared on the cover of Buffalo’s Annual Fire Report, and his prints are cherished as retirement gifts, for promotions and charitable fundraisers. In 1989, he retired with the rank of lieutenant.

Since his retirement, Paul continues to refine his artistic ability, adding portraits and landscapes to his maturing body of work. Through continual observation and application, “I can only hope to portray the beauty and excitement that surrounds us all, in our everyday lives.”
