M. Henry Bonnefoi
Henry Bonnefoi (French, -1958) artist, illustrator and teacher primarily known for his paintings in oil, watercolors and sketches of landscapes, cityscapes, market & street views, floral still lifes, genre, figurative & ballet scenes to include the Paris Opera, the City of Paris, the French Riviera, the quarters of Menton & Cannes, Montmartre, and the Balearic Islands, to name a few. He was born and educated in Paris, and exhibited and won honors in the Beaux Arts in Paris, which was one of the most honored exhibitions in Europe, and he also exhibited in Nice, Italy. Bonnefoi was the official artist of the world famous Paris Opera House (Palais Garnier, AKA known as the Opéra de Paris or Opéra Garnier), and also taught art at three schools in Paris, France.

Bonnefoi’s paintings seem to be very hard to come by on the open market, and may be the result of most of his works still being in his estate collection or with descendants of the family perhaps. According to our records in 1962, Walter Meibohm had sent a letter to Henry in regard to purchasing additional paintings from him and he received a letter back from his wife dated Paris, 2nd April, 1962, and it read: “Sir, Thank you for your letter of March 26, 1962. I regret to inform you that Mr. Bonnefoi died on the 8th of March 1958 and since, none of his paintings are for sale. Yours truly, (Mme) M. Henry Bonnefoi.”
