About the Artist:

It all goes back to looking through the viewfinder of a camera. I was smitten. To be able to compose a scene; to select only those elements which appealed to my aesthetic...this was pure joy. I have expanded my mediums to include printing, painting and collage. The desire remains the same... to revel in creation and, hopefully, bring the viewer along with me.

I have been exhibiting my art on a regional and national level since 1994. I am an Exhibiting Member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and a member of the Western New York Artists Group. My work is included in many private collections as well as in the collection of The Savannah College of Art & Design.

I am essentially a self-taught artist. My background is in writing and clinical social work. Since retiring from my psychotherapy practice I am now able to spend much more time in my studio.

Artist Statement:

I believe that art-making is risk-taking. I risk leaping into the unknown each time that I endeavor to bring into existence that which has not existed before. There is joy and struggle in the dualistic nature of creative risk: the push-and-pull of it, the poetry and prose of it, the then-and-now of it. For me it is an exploration of what psychologist Carl Jung calls the “psychology of opposites,” the idea that people are both introverted and extroverted; rational and irrational; male and female; conscious and unconscious; pushed by past events while being pulled by future expectations. According to Jung, if a person can bring these opposing forces into unity and balance a process of self-healing begins. When I risk to create I hold in my hands the power to unite and balance heart, mind and soul. All it takes is a leap into myself.

“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” - Carl Jung
